St Bartholomew's is a welcoming, traditional Anglican church and has been a focus for Christian worship and service in this community since at least 1150. The present building, set in its beautiful churchyard on Station Road, dates from 1791. We are an inclusive community of all ages and backgrounds with a pattern of worship centred on the Eucharist:we engage in a traditional Anglican form of service, using Common Worship for Eucharists and daily prayer, whilst we use the Book of Common Prayer for Evensong.
The church has a busy sacramental life and is a popular place for weddings, baptisms and funerals. Also, St. Bartholomew's has an active social life including; house groups, seasonal fairs and coffee mornings and larger fund raising events such as the popular Harvest Ceilidh and Singalong afternoons. We also have a growing choir (consisting of junior and adult divisions) and altar servers guild which add to the character and dignity of our worship. There is also a large and active branch of the Mothers' Union at St. Bartholomew's.
Recently, a large renovation of the church hall basement was complete creating a modern and cutting edge space complete with computer suite, kitchen and numerous social spaces. This provides a new and unique opportunity for social engagement with all ages - but particularly the younger members of the parish - as a new social outreach from St. Bartholomew's. Regular events are scheduled for the basement project and it is our hope that it will grow to be a centrepiece of the local community.
The parish office is open Tuesday-Friday from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. please feel free to call in for any information about our sacramental and social life in Long Benton.
